Mathurin MOREAU (1822-1912) "Allegorical sculpture" bronze, SBD, H96.6cm, W39.5cm, D37.5cm. The Peace Victorious of the Storm, allegorical group circa 1897. A bronze proof with a dark brown patina, signed in the lower right corner. Math.Moreau, under the signature, Hors Concours and in a circle Médaille d 'Honneur, inside the cast the letter M. H. 96,6 x 39,5 x 37,5cm. Allegorical sculpted group representing a winged figure raising a young woman holding ears of wheat in the right hand and a branch of laurels in the left hand. Slightly missing at the tip of the laurel. Provenance: Private collection France. Mathurin Moreau, an artist from a family of Burgundian sculptors, quickly became famous and received many commissions. He was awarded the 2nd Grand Prix de Rome in 1842 and then presented his works at the Salons from 1848 to 1911. He was awarded several medals and received the medal of honour in 1897. His style, with its simple and classical lines marked by mannerism, was appreciated by many collectors. Related works Musée de Reims similar proof in gilded bronze, of the same dimensions.
